Meet Dr. Hayden
With a rich background in the field of Emergency Medicine, as well as Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine, Dr. Stephen R. Hayden brings a wealth of expertise and experience to our team. Dr. Hayden is a highly accomplished physician and leader in the field of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Hayden’s journey in the medical field began with his graduation from the prestigious 6-year biomedical program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute/Albany Medical College. Following his education, he served as a US Navy Flight Surgeon stationed with the Naval Strike Warfare Center in Fallon, NV, where he gained valuable experience in providing medical care in high-stress situations to the flight community.
Continuing his commitment to excellence, Dr. Hayden completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the University Hospital Stony Brook, New York, where he served as Chief Resident. He is board-certified and actively practices Emergency Medicine, serving as the Program Director for the Southwest Healthcare MEC Emergency Medicine Residency in Temecula, CA.
Dr. Hayden’s contributions to the field of Emergency Medicine extend beyond his clinical work. He has held esteemed positions such as Program Director for the UC San Diego Emergency Medicine Residency, Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at UCSD, and President of the Council of Residency Directors (CORD) in Emergency Medicine. He is also a Board member for the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
Recognized for his expertise, Dr. Hayden serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Emergency Medicine and as an editor for two major textbooks: The 5 Minute Emergency Medicine Consult and Research in the Acute Care Setting. Additionally, he plays a vital role as a Technical Editor for the American Board of Emergency Medicine maintenance of certification program and serves as an oral board examiner.
Dr. Hayden is active as a medicolegal expert witness in matters relating primarily to Emergency Medicine and regularly consults with firms specializing in medical malpractice.
Dr. Hayden’s passion for teaching and sharing knowledge is evident through his international lectures on evidence-based medicine, effective medical writing, and clinical teaching. He is dedicated to advancing the field of medicine by ensuring that healthcare professionals have the necessary knowledge and skills to provide the highest level of care.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Hayden remains actively involved in the medical community. He serves as a member of the San Diego County Medical Society Board of Directors and holds the position of Delegation Chair from District 1 to the California Medical Association.
